Important to the fresh feeling in my images is the use of film and natural light. I could talk about my love for film forever…
Art & Depth
Film allows me to be more artistic and thoughtful in your images. Instead of clicking the button hundreds of times, in any lighting situation, and fixing things later in Photoshop, I spend a moment getting to know the light around us, set my camera where I know it needs to be, and then get down to being with YOU. Interacting, laughing, and telling your story.
The style and natural emotion of my photos is much more present since returning to film – and hopefully that’s what’s drawing you here!
Quality
Film has a rich, creamy quality and dynamic range that I personally feel cannot be matched by digital. It’s almost dream-like. Instead of things like pixels and sharpness, film makes me speak in terms of “air” and “depth”. Where things like skies and wedding gowns are brightest, film still captures detail in the clouds and lace where digital cannot.
At the same time, however, I do feel that digital handles low light much better, and I will always carry the necessary tools to meet any situation. I invest in the best digital and lighting equipment possible, and always aim to keep my personal style consistent across both.
Modern Hyrbid
Film is actually what you’re seeing 98% of the time on my blog! The coolest thing about the modern film movement is that it’s immediately and beautifully scanned to a digital format. Yep, you still get your online gallery, the chance to share on Facebook, a disk of images from your day… and even any prints or enlargements are actually ordered from the digital file. The best of both worlds for sure!
