Granny Mouse’s Country House & Spa in South Africa

Nestled in the green Caversham Valley in Balgowan, Alicia and I stumbled on quite possibly the most amazing place for our last meal in South Africa: Granny Mouse Country House & Spa. So many sweet details and eclectic nooks, something new at every turn. We could have stayed forever, yet it felt like the most perfect finale to our week-long journey.

And yep, it’s a wedding venue too!!! *call me!*

The sweet little chapel with a Christmas tree on display… what a beautiful place to get married!

Our time in Africa felt like a retreat… a filling of our souls. We had a blast, laughed a ton – but we also breathed deeply, observed our surroundings with such contentment and listened without distraction (no phones!). I will be forever grateful to this country, these people, my dear friend Alicia, and places like Granny Mouse’s Country House for sharing their peaceful beauty.

On this evening, we began our 30-hour trek back home to New York and New England.

April in Tuscany, Italy!

I thought it was about time for me to announce I’ll be living in the Tuscany region of Italy for the month of April 2013!

You may recall my month in the Canadian Rockies of Canmore and Banff in 2011. Travel is such an important part of my life, and I’m lucky to have found a career that lets me pursue those dreams too!

What’s more is that I found an incredible friendship in Canmore, and now Julie of Julie Williams Photography is joining me on this year’s trip! I can’t imagine a better evolution of this adventure, and I look forward to sharing it all with her fantastic spirit!

Hope you’ll join us! And by all means, if you or someone you know is coming through Florence or Tuscany this spring, do get in touch!

A huge thank you goes out to a few others who I’m so excited to collaborate with in the months ahead! We’ve been chatting with wedding planners, calligraphers, other photographers… and even a sweet American couple who will be honeymooning in Tuscany at the time!

Namely, those with the biggest arms wide open to our visit – thank you!:

Serena of Wishversilia is a super thoughtful wedding planner and travel consultant across the Tuscany region.

Mara of Neither Snow is a sweet and amazing New England calligrapher currently living in Florence.

Stay tuned for more as we embark on – and photograph the heck out of – this next big adventure! XO

Sara + Jack in a Field

I wanted to share a very special post with you today, from a December afternoon on a blanket with Sara and her son Jack.

I first met Sara in her role of [amazing] hair stylist for weddings, and we have worked on a couple magazine shoots as well. Her salon is located just a mile from me here in Marstons Mills, so of course I now visit often for myself too!

Jack’s dad, Jon, is a police officer in Norwich, Connecticut. He was shot three times in an hours-long standoff on Monday night, and released from the hospital today. In my heart of hearts, I wanted these photos to arrive from the lab as quickly as possible this week to help bring a smile to Sara and her family!

I don’t normally publish family photos here on my site, because I have a somewhat different perspective for the way family is captured. But I thought these guys deserved an extra shout out today, and their session truly represents what I love about “family”. Big hugs!
